Powder Coating of Fixture Components for the Lighting Industry

For over 25 years, RayPaul Coating has been known throughout the industry for premier contract powder coating services. One project involved the powder coating of fixture components used in the lighting industry. The parts started in a five stage wash, then moved into the dry-off oven to eliminate all moisture and ensure proper adhesion of the primer coat. The powder coating was applied using an advanced electrostatic application process, followed by clear coating and run through our tightly controlled curing ovens.

The parts were formed from cold rolled steel, with dimensions of 11" by 48" by 0.0675" thick. The customer required that they be coated in 50 different colors and textures, which required up to 32 color changes per day. To ensure the integrity of the process and finished results, all components are put through a first, mid, and last part quality control inspection with adhesion testing on all runs. Coating quality is determined by a pencil hardness test, crosshatch test, coating thickness check, and full coverage test.

The team at RayPaul Coating also provided specialty packaging and delivery services. This value added supply chain management service included assistance for plant relocation and transition, on-site inventory warehousing and management, and creation of a program to meet vendor managed inventory demands. The project represented a run from 10 to 1,000 pieces, some of which were delivered in as little as 12 hours.
